Re-wilding and Buffer Creation:
Protected areas all across India are under threat from encroachment, poaching and illegal grazing. BEF has started acquiring degraded farmlands adjoining protected areas with the objective of creating a buffer that acts as a barrier against encroachment and other illegal activities. The idea is to engage the erstwhile owners of the acquired land in conservation related livelihood activities to avoid displacement issues.
Biodiversity Research:
Research and monitoring of Biodiversity in the buffer areas will help us understand how to bring the degrade lands back to an ecologically rich state. We hope that empirical data based approaches will help us protect natural corridors and restore native ecosystems.
Engagement with Indigenous Communities:
The indigenous tribal communities of India have been guardians of the forests and have a true understanding of sustainability. We believe that they have to be engaged more in the conservation and monitoring of our few remaining ecosystems. We envision facilitating access to better education, healthcare and conservation techniques to these groups.
Education and Experiential Learning:
School children and youngsters represent the future of conservation efforts, and we have lined up activities such as bird/butterfly/reptile workshops, training of educators, summer camps, internships etc to groom the next generation. We will also engage with corporates willing to partner with us in CSR funded activities that align with our core interventions.
